The hustle and bustle of everyday life makes it hard to find time to volunteer. In addition to boosting self-confidence and making you feel good, volunteering is a chance to give back to your community and bring people together. With kids, work and errands keeping people busy, Trilix decided to bring the volunteer opportunities to the office!
Our Philanthromittee formed at the beginning of the year and is in charge of organizing volunteer opportunities for Trilix employees. We have several different “mittees” — Fit, Fun, Coffee and Beer — and decided it was time to introduce one focused on our community.
Here are a few organizations we were fortunate enough to work with this year.
Iowa Wild “Tame the Hunger” Outreach
We joined the Iowa Wild players and staff for the “Tame the Hunger” outreach program. Over the course of four hours, more than 50,000 meals were made and delivered to children, families and elderly suffering from hunger in Iowa.
Habitat for Humanity’s Adopt-A-Stud Project
In September, we designed studs for Habitat for Humanity’s Adopt-A-Stud project. Philanthromittee organized teams to decorate five two-by-fours that will be used to build a house, each with messages and images of hope, encouragement and inspiration for the future homeowner.
Meals from the Heartland
Our largest group participation came when we partnered with Meals from the Heartland for their 12th annual Hunger Fight. Our team packaged nearly 4,000 meals in just a few hours.
Furry Friends Refuge
This summer, the Trilix team made four-legged friends at Furry Friends Refuge! We helped with the cats, making sure they had plenty of food and water and clean homes as they awaited adoption day.
Trilix employees were happy to work with Orchard Place, donating toiletries and other supplies in support of their “Rise and Shine” campaign. This campaign helps offset the costs required to meet the basic needs of the youth they serve, and we were happy to contribute.
West Des Moines Human Services Holiday Toy Drive
Most recently, to celebrate the season of giving, Trilix partnered with West Des Moines Human Services to donate gifts for their Holiday Toy Drive. We collected toys, games, blankets, clothes, gift cards and more for children of all ages to enjoy.
To finish off the year, our Philanthromittee organized a blood drive with LifeServe Blood Center. The blood center brought their bus directly to our office. Nine Trilix employees donated, six were first-time donors, and we collected nine units of blood for people in need, adding up to 27 lives saved!
“It was an honor to be a part of the inaugural Philanthromittee team. I think volunteering and donating is a wonderful thing that we can do as Trilix employees and members of our community. Whether we donate items or our time, every little bit helps. I hope next year’s team can build upon this year’s beginning.”VP of Creative and Philanthromittee member Brent Wirth
Each organization we’ve been fortunate enough to work with this year has offered us a gratifying experience. We love being able to give back to our community, and we’re excited for the Philanthromittee to connect us to even more organizations and charities in the future!
