Implementing social media into your business plan is essential to growing a strong online presence, and as more businesses adopt this digital strategy, you need to find ways to stand out on each social platform. Trilix’s Digital Communications Manager Megan Stelter shares five tips to help increase brand presence.
1. Find out what your audience wants and then choose your platforms.
Companies should start by focusing on what their audience wants. You cannot create quality content until you know what will engage them. Once a brand knows their audience and has quality content generated, the next step is to slowly increase their social presence and visibility. Start by perfecting one or two platforms before adding more. Companies often think they have to be on all platforms — Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc. — when in reality, it is better to be great at one or two than to have mediocre presences on all.
2. Boost your posts, and boost presence.
Because only two to six percent of companies’ audiences now see their social content, boosting posts not only allows companies to reach the right target audience, but to also increase their reach in general. You can't engage with your audience if no one sees your content. Boosts help you to become visible to more people you want to reach, getting new eyes on your content. As little as $5 per day can help increase reach, so large budgets are not always necessary.
3. Consistency is key.
Companies need to post three times a week on their social media platforms at the very least. That said, don't just publish content to say something. Make sure there's a reason behind the content you share.
4. Use hashtags with purpose and tailor them by platform.
Facebook and Twitter have made it so you can search public posts without using hashtags, so they are not necessary on those two platforms. And it often looks cleaner to not use hashtags on them unless they are for a special event like a holiday or day of the year. However, hashtags are essential on Instagram. In fact, brands should be using upwards of more than nine hashtags on Instagram to get more engagement and help grow their following organically.
5. Be as visual as possible.
Never post something to any social media platform (besides Twitter) without an image or a video. Social media is a crowded space, and you have to stand out and give your audience something to look at. People are more likely to notice and engage with your content if you have a visual. Videos help even more so than images. In fact, videos preform on average 12 times better in terms of engagement than photos.
