Originally from northern Mississippi, Reid lost his Southern accent when he moved to Iowa in the 6th grade. He’s been here ever since and considers it home. After Reid graduated from the University of Iowa in 2014 with degrees in journalism and political science, he moved to Des Moines to start a career as a TV news reporter at WHO-HD Channel 13 News — Ron Burgundy was a childhood hero of his.
After nearly three years in the news business, Reid had an itch to try something new. And we’re glad he did — Reid joined Trilix’s PR/communications department as a social media/communications specialist.
We sat down with Reid to find out the really important stuff, including if he prefers pizza or tacos, his favorite TV show and more.
What are your favorite things to do outside of work?
I’ve never met a stranger in my life, so anything social is my go-to. I like going to bars, breweries and restaurants with friends (patio/rooftop season is my fave). I love to stay active; I’m really involved in my CrossFit gym downtown, and probably talk about it too much (that’s a rule, right?). I also got into biking last spring with the purchase of my first road bike! I enjoy the Taco Tuesday ride in the spring/summer to Cumming, and hope to do some of RAGBRAI this year. I’m also really into music (of almost any genre) and will go to any concert or music festival with you.
Favorite meal or restaurant in Des Moines?
This might be the hardest question I’ve ever had to answer. It’s a three-way tie between Casey’s pizza, Sakari sushi or Fuzzy’s Taco Shop.
Pizza or tacos?
I like to fold my pizza in half and eat it like a taco?
Beach or mountains? And where’s the one place at the top of your bucket list?
Growing up, my family always opted for the beach. I think I have to go with mountains. Bucket lister: Abu Dhabi.
If you could turn any activity into an Olympic sport, what would you have a good chance at winning medal for?
What could you give a 40-minute presentation on with absolutely no preparation?
Favorite TV show?
Game of Thrones. Westworld. House of Cards. They’re like my children; I cannot choose a favorite.
Tell me a fun fact about yourself that not many people would guess.
My first name is actually William, but my parents have always called me by my middle name, Reid. It’s been a confusing life.
Please help us welcome Reid to the team!
